Excavation
Like construction, excavation is a very important service. However unlike construction, the work is rarely actually seen or noticed. Rather, it is generally designed to be overlooked. It is primarily functional, and as such, it is very important that the function it provides is reliable. Our goal is to create products and services that meets the needs of our customers, that is visually discreet, and that is dependable for years to come.

Get to Know Us
It all began when Ben was about 9 years old; he was a boy with big dreams and even bigger determination. He knew deep down that he was made to have his own business, but he wasn't sure what kind of business yet. He was one of the younger children in a large family, and his parents had just bought a new property. After much consideration, they decided to build their own home on it. At first he was thrilled about the dirt work--and even now, excavation is a passion for him. But he was also intrigued by the construction of the home. It was a family affair; he worked with his two brothers, his dad, and his grandpa on the project while his mom and sisters brought food, hot cocoa, and moral support. His sister designed the home with his dad; his mom kept the rest of the family functioning while the "working crew" stayed busy at the property. From breaking ground to moving in was 18 months, and Ben was inspired.
Skipping forward 11 years, Mr. Benjamin Smith was married (to me, [his wife] Melanie). He had spent his young-adult life seeking the LORD's wisdom; learning as many skills as he could, asking as many questions as experienced-people would answer. He worked in positions that he felt would benefit him to have experience in: automotive work, excavation, trucking, land clearing, heavy equipment operating, customer service, etc. Five months later, he found out that he was expecting a daughter. He decided that if ever he was going to take the risk of starting his own business, it was then--before he had more dependents to provide for and before the comfort of a predictable paycheck outweighed his dream.
We prayed about it, being purposeful to seek God's will in our life, and He set everything into place to make it happen. The only thing left to do was to decide on a name for our business--when we visited my brother and he greeted us with "Hey Mel, Ben,"--we knew right away what we would call it. That was the birth of MelBen Smith. And since June of 2022, we have been serving the LORD and our community with our family owned and operated business. Every day we are inspired to work together, serve others, and provide the best quality work with the love of Christ.
